One of the main reasons for holding the Grand Family Reunion is to give cousins a chance to meet one another (probably many for the first time) and make contacts to last a lifetime.
Another reason is to foster an opportunity to share research with others working on the same family.
WHO SHOULD PRE-REGISTER? - Those of you ranging anywhere
from thinking you might attend if your circumstances are favourable at the time
up to knowing you wouldn't miss it for the world.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? - There will be separate Registration Fees for four separate events and activities (see below). We have not yet set a final fee structure. We will ask you to show us all the money later when we have a formal Registration.
IF I PRE-REGISTER, AM I COMMITTED TO ATTENDING? - Not at all. We realize that with 8 months to go, a lot can change in your personal situation.

SUPPLY US WITH INFORMATION
E-mail Chris Young with subject line "PRE- REGISTRATION" and provide the information requested below. Or use regular mail and send to Chris at 60-302 College Ave West, GUELPH, ON, N1G 4T6, Canada.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR FIVE PIECES OF INFORMATION:
6. We will include your e-mail address on the following list (to facilitate communication between cousins), unless you request otherwise.
MAKE AN ADVANCE OF THE FINAL REGISTRATION FEE
What we are looking for is a modest advance against the eventual fee. The
committee's request is that you
2. DRAW against your bank account in the sum of $20 CDN ($13 US) for EACH
adult in your party and
3. MAIL to
4. ANSWER a questionnaire and forward your responses directly to me (see STEP 3 below)
The way the money handling has been set up thus far is that Carol has established an account at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) where she is an employee. Although she and I can make deposits, please forward your cheques to Carol. Withdrawals (e.g. cheques drawn against the account) must be signed by both Carol and I (we live about 45 min apart). I maintain all the pre-registration information on a spreadsheet, which has been sent to Carol. New names are forwarded to her. She enters all the deposits on a version of the spreadsheet that she has modified. Once we have set the fees and have a more formal registration, you will be credited for your advance. What is the final fee? We still haven't established the individual expenses - the intent is to have a profit of $0.00 (CDN & US). So please be patient until we do the final tally.
REGISTRATION FEES BREAKDOWN
Actually there will be four fees, tailored to the activities you wish to participate in. These fees will be:
1. a MAIN FEE - this will mostly cover the expenses of the first three days at the Academy,
2. a FEE for the BUS TOUR - to cover cost of bus rental and guides.
3. a FEE for the SEMINAR DAY - to cover the cost of the Community Centre Hall rental and any expenses associated with obtaining speakers.
4. If you book a TABLE to present your family's research (alone or as part of a team) at the Academy, there will be a nominal fee to cover the cost of rental of tables and chairs.
5. There will be an ecumenical church service on the Sunday. Attendance will be FREE.
Your advance will be applied to any/all of these activities.
ACTIVITY UPDATE July 10-14, 2003
1. ACADEMY activities Thursday-Saturday = This is mostly to provide you with an opportunity to meet and mingle with old and newly found cousins and swap research results. You are encouraged to book a table
2. BUS TOUR on the Sunday = This past summer I crafted a tour of most of the 30 acre farm lots, which I then drove. It was exactly 100 km long and took just over 2 hours. Tickets will be sold in advance only. The numbers of seats available will depend upon the number of buses and guides we can access. Let's hope it isn't a foggy day since you will see plenty of shore line.
3. SEMINAR DAY on the Monday = We have already lined up Dr Terry Punch, who will probably give talks on our French and German ancestors and how they came to leave Europe and arrive on our shores. Then Dr Ken Paulsen will make several presentations on how ethnicity played a role in why/how the early settlers traded land to be with those of like background (e.g. Montbeliardian Francophones tended to concentrate in the North West Range), early Lunenburg commerce, and the governance of the new enclave. Other speakers knowledgeable in the life and times of later generations are being sought. We also intend to give attendees an opportunity to ask lots of questions of the "experts" in open session. The Centre seats up to 600. Tickets will be sold in advance and be available at the door ONLY if all are not presold. 4. FAMILY TABLES Thursday - Saturday = You are encouraged to present your research, even if not complete. Details on how to register at L250tabl.html
5. ECUMENICAL CHURCH SERVICE(S) Sunday = The timing and venue (one or more
of the local churches or elsewhere) yet to be decided.
ANSWER THIS QUESTIONNAIRE (WHEN Your Fee Advance HAS BEEN MAILED)
We still have no idea of how many will show up at the Reunion. Having the on-line pre-registration has indicated nearly 1000 potential attendees and the list continues to grow. To give us an idea of which of the various activities will actually be attended, for EACH of the following, please indicate how many in your party are likely to attend.
A. Academy Activities = (#)
B. Ecumenical Church Service =
C. Bus Tour of Immediate Area =
D. Seminar Day =
E. Also indicate that you have forwarded a cheque(check) to Carol. |
WHAT IF I HAVEN'T YET DECIDED TO ATTEND THE REUNION?
Then a fee advance (STEPS 2 and 3) is not requested at this time, only when you decide for sure.
