Effect:
A white solid is placed into a latex glove. The open end of the glove is tied shut as for a balloon. Over time the glove expands and may eventually pop.
What You Need:
- Dry ice
- Latex glove
What You Do Before the Show:
- Lay out several latex gloves on your stage.
- Have chunks of dry ice in a storage cooler.
What You Do During the Show:
- Put a sizable chunk of dry ice into a latex glove.
- Tie the open end of the glove as you would for a balloon.
- Repeat with several gloves.
- Set on a table in view of the audience.
What is Happening:
- The dry ice sublimes to a vapour and causes the glove to expand continually like a self inflating balloon.
- Depending upon how big a chunk of dry ice used and time, the glove may pop!
Hazards:
- Dry ice is at -78 dec Celsius and can cause severe frost bite.
- Handle the dry ice with insulated gloves.
Patter:
- Since this is intended to be a silent effect, not much patter is needed, unless the audience asks questions. Then wing it!
- Depending upon the age of the audience and amount of dry ice remaining in the gloves, hand them out to the audience at the end of the show.
