MAP OF SECOND PENINSULA - B
For this Map, name data was taken from the 1753 Distribution of 30 acre Lots as found in W.P. Bell's Notes and from a complete reading of the Registry of 30 Acre Lots, 12 June 1760.
Nominally, lots were intended to be 40 chains (half a mile, 800 m) deep and 7.5 chains (495 feet, 150 m) wide. Given that many were along coastlines or rivers, some of the lots were greater than 30 acres. Where lots would have been less than 30 acres, widths may have been increased to compensate. Since original surveyor's maps are not available, the lot lines shown should be taken as approximate.
The lines shown were estimated by reference to maps drawn by Bell, Ken Paulson in his Ph.D. thesis, and a "Plan of the Townships of New Dublin, Lunenburg, and Chester" drawn by William Mackay of Halifax November 14, 1834.
The map grid lines are 1 km apart.
