It should be noted that name of a bride previously married would carry the family name of her late husband. However her maiden name would be given with that of her parents.

LUNENBURG COUNTY CENSUS RECORDS 1881

The Census records contain useful information on the members of each family unit. In the case of Israel Young, his family is listed as
YOUNG, Israel, male, married, age 27, of German descent, born in Nova Scotia, no occupation listed, and a Methodist;
YOUNG, Joanna, female married, age 27, of German descent, born in Nova Scotia, and a Methodist;
YOUNG, Daniel, male, age 1, of German descent, born in Nova Scotia, no occupation listed, and a Methodist.

This information is found in 1881 Census District A2 Lunenburg, family # 161, which can be abbreviated as A2-161 . This would be interpreted as Israel and Joanna being a married couple with one child. There would be no information on Joanna’s maiden name. This record would not show that they had two other children who were born between 1874 and 1879 who died in infancy.
